Give a man a fish...

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." A chinese proverb.
Now, not that many people in the western world fish for food nowdays, so maybe this is more appropriate: "Give a man a big mac and you feed him for a day. Get a man a job at McDonalds and he will smell of burger grease for a lifetime."
Or, if we're talking about the internet, one could probably say "Give a man a link and you shut him up for a day. Teach a man to Google and you shut him up permanently."

I read somewhere that a person decides whether a page is interesting or not in ten seconds. If you're seeing a movie, can you decide if it's worth watching after ten seconds? If you're reading a book, can you say if it's any good after ten seconds? Hopefully not (or maybe you accidentally got a hold of the phone book.)
When it comes to computers and looking for information, people say "This is a computer, it is fast, it is cool, and it shall do my bidding! This, that which they call the Inter Net, holds the answers." After a few hours - having barely avoided a dozen porn pages, having read about a hidden alien base inside the Niagara Falls and having called the airline to cancel that vacation to Canada - all you can hear is mumbling about how you can fit so much crap in such a tiny box. Then, they go to their favorite forum and ask. Having fought and lost a battle with a search engine, they don't try the search function in the forum. Thus, they add their own pile of crap to the global lavatory of the future.

So, I guess what I want to say is this, "Patience, grasshopper, and Just Fucking Google It!"

And remember, the Google knows...

Yes, unfortunatly we live in the so called modern world so without question the following statement is accurate:
"Give a man a big mac and you feed him for a day. Get a man a job at McDonalds and he will smell of burger grease for a lifetime."

The truth of a person's general laziness can be fitted into this:
"Give a man a link and you shut him up for a day. Teach a man to Google and you shut him up permanently."

Or is this only how much life has decayed?

I'd say no one can decide anything within 10 seconds because that is not sufficient time to analyze the truth and depth of content in a movie, book, person etc.
Perhaps the simplicity of a website can be narrowed down because usually people only go to websites they intend to visit.

In the real world then - would anyone go to a stranger and hang out for a while until deciding whether that guy's place is worth attention or not? No, I think this is valid for websites as websites could be related to someone else's house.

So generally speaking, people only visits familiar websites or forums unless they are looking for something. Hopefully, a good and clean website will provide the answer whether it's worthy attention or not within 10 seconds - otherwise, the siteadmin / person responsable for the content is a dumbass and not suited for creating websites.
Sometimes a friend may provide a link to a "place" they either 1) like themselves and wants other people to see or 2) a place thought to be useful or humerous or other for the friend.

This comment is already too long.
I'll fuckinggooogle myself now!
