Where can I buy stamps for my emails?

This link: http://shirky.com is interesting. Clan Shirky has written a number of articles concerning internet, P2P, the future of media and other things not related to lost stamp collections. Check it out if you're fascinated by stuff like this (which I am.) And stay away if you can't find your stamp collection.

Give a man a fish...

Wednesday, June 08, 2005

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." A chinese proverb.
Now, not that many people in the western world fish for food nowdays, so maybe this is more appropriate: "Give a man a big mac and you feed him for a day. Get a man a job at McDonalds and he will smell of burger grease for a lifetime."
Or, if we're talking about the internet, one could probably say "Give a man a link and you shut him up for a day. Teach a man to Google and you shut him up permanently."

I read somewhere that a person decides whether a page is interesting or not in ten seconds. If you're seeing a movie, can you decide if it's worth watching after ten seconds? If you're reading a book, can you say if it's any good after ten seconds? Hopefully not (or maybe you accidentally got a hold of the phone book.)
When it comes to computers and looking for information, people say "This is a computer, it is fast, it is cool, and it shall do my bidding! This, that which they call the Inter Net, holds the answers." After a few hours - having barely avoided a dozen porn pages, having read about a hidden alien base inside the Niagara Falls and having called the airline to cancel that vacation to Canada - all you can hear is mumbling about how you can fit so much crap in such a tiny box. Then, they go to their favorite forum and ask. Having fought and lost a battle with a search engine, they don't try the search function in the forum. Thus, they add their own pile of crap to the global lavatory of the future.

So, I guess what I want to say is this, "Patience, grasshopper, and Just Fucking Google It!"

And remember, the Google knows...
